Understand motor size, KV and the questions to ask before adding a motor to your build.
Read the dimensions
Motor numbers commonly describe stator dimensions, but naming varies. Confirm the manufacturer’s dimension drawing and mounting pattern rather than relying on the model name.
Understand KV
KV describes approximate unloaded speed per volt. It does not state thrust or safe operating current. Compare the intended voltage and propeller with published test data.
Check the whole system
Review shaft size, clearance, ESC current capacity and cooling. Leave room for wiring and fasteners, and verify the final combination against official component documentation.
